  • Can get busy on a Friday night even on a "quiet" weekend, but still plenty of good campsites. Becoming popular with caravans. Drop toilets available.

  • Great location next to the river and good walking track between fry hut and sheep yard flat .

  • Camped this Easter (2017) and had a great time with the kids. The location is nice and close to Mt. Buller & Mansfield, so it is easy to do a day trip here or there. The way in is 17km of semi-corrigated unsealed winding dirt road that climbs to the top of a saddle (approx halfway) and then slopes down to Sheepyard flat. Best suited to 4WD, but can be done in a regular sedan etc too. Takes at least 3 hours from Melbourne. The camp itself is really nice, nestled at the base of a mountain along the river Hoqua. The camping space is at a guess 300m x 600m. However there is another similar space on the opposite side of the road. Additionally thre are many other spaces along the river further up where people can camp close to the river. River Howqua is a gorgeous river with crystal clear water flowing through at a nice steady pace. While it was too cold to swim there (some were with wet suits) it was great to just enjoy the tranquility. The amenities are a little rough with just drop toilets and no showers. The worst part about the stay is that people bring their dogs into the park. Makes the stay feel a little more like a trip to the zoo than camp out in the wilderness. On both nights we stayed it was the loud barking of dogs at approximately 6am that woke the entire campsite. On the second night someone was yelling 'control your dogs!' to one of the owners. The only other comment that I would make is that camping with so many other people over a very busy weekend means that there are a lot of people staying up late having a great time. While a good thing in itself, it may be something to be aware of if you have kids that are prone to waking at night due to noisy environments. On the whole, if it wasn't for the dogs barking constatly or wandering around the campsite, I'd give the location a 5/5.
